Councils: Where Do You Fit In

Councils and Leadership Groups are sub-groups of Members of the Chamber, formed within the Chamber, that focus on a particular niche of Membership to which those Members believe align them with other similar Members (like a Facebook or Reddit group, but real, live, and in-person). When these niche groups grow in the number of Members, the Chamber creates a Council or Leadership Group. As the Council or Leadership Group shrinks in Members, as they do from time to time, the Board disbands the Council or Leadership Group.

Historically across the country, Membership in some Chamber Councils and Leadership Groups are included with Chamber Membership while others have additional annual dues. At the Silicon Valley Central Chamber of Commerce (SVC Central) all of the Councils and Leadership Groups are included with your Membership; meaning, there are no additional dues or fees to participate and be active in Council or Leadership Group meetings, events, and programs. Note that some Council or and Leadership Group events may charge a registration fee, usually if there is food served (in those cases, Members of the Chamber will always receive a much-discounted price over non-members).

The most important thing to know about Councils or and Leadership Group is… the Council or Leadership Group name and focus is what they do, it IS NOT a limiting factor for you. If you would like to be there or think you should be a part, then do so – don’t hold back.

City of Sunnyvale

Sunnyvale Business Council (SBC)

Included with Chamber Dues

By popular demand, this is the newest Council of the Silicon Valley Central Chamber (SVC Chamber). Focused on growing Sunnyvale with an eye toward LIVE-ability, WORK-ability, and PLAY-ability, Council Members are all about the City of Sunnyvale. This is not the largest Council in the SVC Chamber, but it is the fastest growing with the most potential. It is the place to be if you are doing business, or want to be doing business, in Sunnyvale. The Council plans to hear regularly from city council elected-officials, city staff, and the A-list in the Sunnyvale business community. Be a newsmaker in Sunnyvale; or, at least, be aware of all the news, rules, regulations, and opportunities to help you succeed in business in Sunnyvale.

If you are an A-lister in Sunnyvale, or think you should be, this Council is your new home. Whether you LIVE in Sunnyvale, WORK in Sunnyvale, or PLAY in Sunnyvale, or just want to be informed, then be there. Don’t let a few invisible lines on a map hold you back (we won’t even make you show your A-list credentials).

Leadership Groups

Young Professionals

Included with Chamber Dues

Focused on career growth, professional development, meeting (and becoming) who’s who in the valley, and issues of interest to Members under the age of forty, this is the place to be if you are young (or young in spirit), full of energy, and want to change the world. Events of the SVYP are some of the most dynamic, motivational, and FUN in the entire bay area (not to mention, often the largest events of their kind).

This Council welcomes Members of all ages who want to interact with the future Leaders of the Chamber and the Silicon Valley region. Though the activities and agendas cater to the young professional, if you would like to be there, then be there. Don’t let your birthdate hold you back (we do not card at the door to keep the “40-and-over” crowd out).
